Siamese Cat

National Siamese Cat Day

Why are Siamese Cats so popular? At Rock n’ Rescue, the list of adopters for these special felines is long! And the reason is clear to anyone who has experience with Siamese cats.

Siamese cats originally came from Thailand, known as Siam, thus their name. Original Siamese were known for their almond shaped blue eyes and elongated slender bodies. The breed has grown and expanded. You might have heard of Oriental Shorthairs or Lynx Point Siamese. Each has distinct features setting them apart from other Siamese. You might recall our prior blog about Himalayans, or Himis. They are part Siamese, part Persian.

All of the Siamese breeds are sought after, for good reason! Siamese cats are wonderful pets, they are affectionate and get along with other cats as well as other animals and children. They are affectionate pets and love to snuggle. They are vocal and will let you know how they’re feeling with their loud vibrating purrs, when happy, or their loud cries, when they need attention! They will also communicate with the beautiful slow blinks we all love when they are happy and content.

Siamese are often called the eternal kitten because they need attention. They can be coy and flirty (have you seen our Wallace, seeking attention (January 10 IG post). They are often described as the most dog-like cat breed in that are active and playful and deeply bond with their humans.

If you aren’t already in love with Siamese, and need more reasons to get on our Siamese cat waiting list, here are some fun facts!

  • Bob Dylan mentioned a Siamese cat in his 1965 song “Like a Rolling Stone”: “You used to ride on a chrome horse with your diplomat, Who carried on his shoulder a Siamese cat.”
  • The Rolling Stones song “Under My Thumb” includes the lyric “Under my thumb, a Siamese cat of a girl.”
  • Siamese cat is featured on the cover art for the Blink-182 album Cheshire Cat.

The bottom line is a Siamese cat is a wonderful addition to a loving family who is looking for a playful, affectionate pet who is intelligent and loving.
