Guinea Pig - brown

March is Adopt a Guinea Pig Month!

Did you know that besides cats and dogs, Rock N’ Rescue has small animal adoptables like Guinea Pigs too?!   Well, this month to celebrate we are featuring several of these fuzzy cuties!  Sadly, so many of them are abandoned at shelters, as they are easy to purchase, and the commitment is longer (4-8 yrs) vs with a hamster (2-3 yrs) or other store-bought pets.  Too many people buy them without understanding the commitment and devotion PLUS the daily love that they need.  Of course, Guinea pigs are such cute little pets and by adopting vs purchasing in a store you can help the shelter crisis.   In fact, the truth is guinea pigs that come from rescues are usually more well-adjusted with more predictable personalities, unlike store-bought guinea pigs.  This is one of the reasons why in 2002 the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals dedicated the month of March to raising awareness for guinea pig adoptions.  People have been celebrating every year since!

Are you interested in adopting a guinea pig?  If you are, awesome!! These furry friends are so much fun to have as pets. Something important to note is that guinea pigs thrive when they are in pairs, so if you notice that your one guinea pig seems sad, getting them a companion would be best.  They have special diets – including lots of fresh fruits and vegetables – that are important to manage to maintain good health.  In addition, as we mentioned their life span ranges from four to eight years, and to give your guinea pig a happy life, it will need a lot of playtime. Another fun fact about them is that they are very smart and can learn tricks, which is super cool!  They can even be taught to walk on a leash!  For more info on our adoptable guinea pigs or for us to custom search for you, please go to www.rnrpets.org. In fact, guinea pigs that come from rescues are usually more well-adjusted with more predictable personalities, unlike store-bought guinea pigs. There are many guinea pigs out there with bad backgrounds that have been rescued and just want a forever home.

We hope you join us in celebrating adopt a guinea pig month, and look into adopting if you are interested!!!!
